Rhetoric and composition, writing across the curriculum, service-learning, Renaissance
Tom came to UConn in 2005 to direct the University Writing Center. He is also a professor in the English Department and serves as Faculty Director for the Human Rights and Action Learning Community. Deans has longstanding interests in university-community partnerships (particularly those that hinge on writing and literacy), composition theory, writing across the disciplines, writing centers, writing assessment, early modern literature, the pragmatist philosophical tradition, and representations of writers in literary and sacred texts. He’s the author of Writing Partnerships: Service-Learning in Composition and Writing and Community Action: A Service-Learning Rhetoric and Reader, as well as founding series editor for the Oxford Brief Guides to Writing in the Disciplines.
